Amser Carers Breaks

Amser Project Coordinator
Hi, I’m Nicola, the Amser Project Coordinator. I am a Mam to two beautiful daughters. I have always loved helping people and knowing I will be able to do so in this role is extremely rewarding. I am excited to make a difference to the lives of our amazing unpaid carers.
The Carers Trust, Amser, Short Breaks Scheme Wales is a Government Funded initiative which aims to deliver 30,000 short break opportunities for unpaid carers by 2025.
‘Amser’ is Welsh for the word time, which is a fitting of the purpose of the scheme.  It is important for unpaid carers to allow time for themselves to take a break from their caring responsibility to refresh and recharge. This improves carer resilience and wellbeing and helps sustain positive relationships between the carer and those they care for.
The short break opportunities we offer include:
• Creative Group Sessions
• Together group Sessions
• Well-being days
• Trips for carers
• Weekly Carers Choir

A carer who attended the Amser funded short break to the Hay Festival recently quoted
“ Thank you for this opportunity. I have always wanted to visit the Hay Festival but didn’t have the time to arrange it and I didn’t want to go on my own. I had a fantastic day. I met some lovely people and even got to meet Ruby Wax!! Thank you all at Bridgend Carers Centre. It really was a memorable trip. I feel uplifted and ready to face another day
