Youth of the Year Award
The National Assembly visit our Young Adult Carers
A huge congratulations to one of our Young Adult Carers, Jodie Williams, on receiving the Wales UK Youth 'Youth of the Year' Award for her work to change the lives of other young Carers. We had a wonderful evening at Buckingham Palace where she received her award!
On 12th January 2016, Kelly Harris, Youth Engagement Officer for the National Assembly, visited the Young Adult Carer Voice Group. She spoke to them about how the National Assembly works and they spoke to her about the issues young carers currently face in Wales.
Two of our Young Adult Carers, Charley and Ronnie, attended the 'Driving change - policy in learning and work for young adult carers' conference in London in March 2016. Not only did they get the opportunity to share good and bad experiences in education and employment but they were treated to see 'Wicked' in the West End.
Our Young Adult Carers had a wonderful time in Rhossili Bay during the Easter holidays. We went rock hopping, watched films and ate lots of Easter eggs.
As a result of being awarded a grant from Carers Trust we were able to take 5 lucky Young Adult Carers on a day trip to London. After arriving by train we visited Westminster Abbey which was breath-taking and so interesting! We then had some lunch and visiting the London Dungeons. It was so much fun! The Young Adult Carers had an excellent day experiencing Britain's capital city.
Young carers from Bridgend joined Coastal Housing Group to bury their very own time capsule at the town centre development. It was filled with a range of personal items supplied by the young people including poems, drawings and writing about their families.
In June 2017, we attended the Youth Work Excellence Awards where we came runner up in the Outstanding Rights Project for Youth Work. We are so proud of our achievement!
